Happy Rory, sad Poulter

Rory McIlroy has married his fiancee Erica Stoll since 2015 at star-studded Ashford Castle in Ireland on last Saturday. The local newspapers are reporting details on a “wedding of the decade”. A number of celebrities attended the nuptials, including fellow Tour players Sergio Garcia, Shane Lowry, Paul McGinley, Padraig Harrington, and 2018 Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Björn.
Legendary Stevie Wonder was flown in and reportedly performed, backed by a full orchestra. His show was followed by a fireworks display. Reported overall cost exceeds 1.2 million…
Erica and Rory have now departed for their honeymoon in Barbados, where they will stay in the exclusive Sandy Lane Hotel co-owned by another billionaire Irish businessman and golf lover JP McManus. Rory McIlroy is expected to return to competitive play only for the Players Championship at Sawgrass (FL) on May 11th with a ring on his finger.

Ian Poulter in front of a tough season

Ian Poulter could have been among the 200 guests invited at the wedding, unfortunately missing the cut at the Texas Open where he was looking for some 30’000 dollars to keep his PGA Tour playing rights. Playing on a medical exemption since he was back after healing an injured body, he could have saved already his 2018 season by ending in theTop 10 a week before at Hilton Island instead of sharing the 11th spot.
What’s up now for this great character and “fashionista”? He doesn’t know himself. He may rely on the Monday qualifier at any PGA Tour event. Although being #105 in Europe or World #188, his Class A status as a Ryder Cup winner will possibly lead to some invitations. But till he finds again a spot within the world’s Top 50, he won’t be a happy camper. PPH
